We created this chess board custom cake for a 40th birthday celebration. The birthday cake is paneled in chocolate marbled fondant and painted with gel color to achieve a real wood grain look. The top of the cake is checkered with molded chocolate chess pieces. The chess pieces are set up in the exact same position as the guest of honor's winning championship move. 

The cake is checkerboard vanilla and chocolate with chocolate mousse filling.
